Both cleanup workers and coastal dwellers are being exposed to known carcinogenic materials and the obvious question is whether or not adequate efforts are being made both by BP and local governments to mitigate this risk. Unfortunately like many past exposure issues, it could be years before those exposed start to become ill and begin to seek treatment and compensation for the health costs. If they have to fight when they are most vulnerable, it will demonstrate that legislators have learned little from past spills.
